WPU Sweeps Tennis Doubleheader

RALEIGH, North Carolina -- Ferrum College dropped both ends of a non-conference tennis doubleheader this afternoon to William Peace University, with the men dropping a heartbreaker 5-4 and the women losing 9-0.

THE BASICS
In the men's match, Ferrum's Gabriel Alvarez and Jairo Herbas won 8-6 at #2 doubles and the Panthers picked up a forfeit win in the #3 spot to grab the 2-1 lead heading into singles play.

Alvarez then delivered a gutty straight-sets win at #2 singles and Ferrum picked a forfeit in the #6 spot, but the Pacers won the other four singles matches to eke out the win.

In the women's match, William Peace won all three doubles matches, then swept through singles play to record the shutout.

Coach Rod Baker's teams will both be back on court Sunday, April 7, at home against Mary Baldwin University. The non-conference doubleheader is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start, and will be preceded by a men's Senior Day ceremony for two graduating players.
