Cooney Accepts Head Softball Coach Position at Barton

FERRUM, Va. – Assistant Softball Coach Courtlynn Cooney has resigned at Ferrum College to accept the Head Softball Coach position at Barton College. Barton is an NCAA Div. II school located in Wilson, North Carolina, and a fellow member of Conference Carolinas, in which Ferrum also competes.

Cooney came to Ferrum in July 2024 from University of Mount Olive, where she was a four-year starter for the Trojan softball team and was a two-time All-American outfielder. A rare four-time All-Region first team selection, she was also a four-time All-Conference first team selection in Conference Carolinas.
 
Cooney holds 11 school records at Mount Olive, including season batting average (.503), career batting average (.443), career hits (282), season hits (84), career runs (193), season runs (65), career stolen bases (136), season stolen bases (46), game stolen bases (6), career triples (11) and game hits (4). She was Mount Olive's Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Year as a junior in 2023, then earned Easton/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Scholar-Athlete honors her senior year in 2024. 

Cooney helped run various softball camps and clinics in her time at Ferrum. She has been a private softball instructor in Mount Olive and in her hometown of Mechanicsville, Maryland. She has also served as a Little League umpire in the Southern Maryland Youth Organization.

Cooney earned her bachelor's degree in Business Management with a minor in Economics from Mount Olive in May 2024.
