McHENRY, Md. -- Ferrum College picked up a non-conference win in men's wrestling today over Garrett College on the road. The Panthers won six of 10 bouts, including two pins and two tech falls, for a 28-16 win at Garrett's CARC Gymnasium.

THE BASICS
Garrett opened with a pin at 125 pounds to grab the early 6-0 lead. Ferrum answered with a pair of falls at 133 and 141 to go out in front 12-6. Josiah Canales Maldonado (133 lbs) needed just 51 seconds in pinning Brandon Womack, then Braden Crawford (141) matched it with a fall over Keon Gavin at the 5:50 mark of the third period. 

Cameron Curva (149) added five team  points with a 20-3 tech fall over Garrett's Noah Obinna at 6:49 to extend Ferrum's lead to 17-6. The Lakers picked up a decision at 157 pounds, but Robert Owens Jr. (165) and Hunter Thompson (174) each recorded decisions to make it a 23-9 team score in favor of the Panthers.

Joseph Toner (184) added another five points for Ferrum with a 17-2 tech fall over Braeden Poorbaugh in just 2:10, widening the gap to 28-9. Garrett earned a major decision at 197 pounds and a a sudden victory decision at 285 pounds for the final count. 

A number of extra matches were contested as well, with Ferrum winning seven of 12 bouts. Included in the Panther victories were two pins by Blake McCarty at 157 pounds and 165 pounds. Canales Maldonado, Thompson and Toner all picked up their second wins of the day as well with extra matches.
