Murfreesboro, N.C. - The Ferrum College women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought Conference Carolinas contest on the road Friday afternoon, falling 48–44 to Chowan University at the Hawks Athletic Center. Freshman Breyana Kimmons led all scorers with 18 points, knocking down four three-pointers. Taryn Blankenship contributed eight points and six rebounds, while Aleksandra Kubiak added seven points off the bench. Sofia Ponce and Allyson Cassell each grabbed seven rebounds as Ferrum finished with 44 boards.

THE BASICS
The Panthers trailed 13–9 after the first quarter but surged in the second, shooting 66.7 percent from the field to take a 27–25 lead into halftime. Ferrum and Chowan traded baskets throughout a defensive third quarter, entering the final frame with Ferrum holding a slim 33–31 advantage. The fourth quarter featured six lead changes, including a late three-pointer by Kimmons that gave Ferrum a brief 41–40 edge with just over three minutes remaining. Chowan's Nyeisha Savage scored in the paint giving the Hawks the lead. With one minute remaining, Blankenship hit a jumper to tie the game. Chowan responded on the other end, retaking the lead. Ferrum had one last chance to tie the game but was unable to convert. The Hawks made two more free throws to seal the game. Ferrum battled through nine ties and eight lead changes and the Panthers held a slight edge on the boards.
