EMORY, Va. -- Ferrum College opened the 2026-27 women's tennis season Wednesday afternoon, September 30, with a 6-1 non-conference victory over Emory & Henry University at Richardson Tennis Courts.

THE BASICS
Ferrum swept the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead into singles play. The Panthers' top doubles tandem of
Fernanda Martinez and
Alejandra Parra started things off with a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles, while
Bianca Solorzano and
Kaitlin Hodges followed with a 6-1 win at No. 2.
Miley Moses and
Madison Cox completed the doubles sweep, eking out a 7-5 win at No. 3.
The Panthers then won five of the six singles matches to pick up the first win of the season. Solorzano led the way at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Megan Moore, while Parra earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Keira Watson at No. 2. Martinez added a straight-set win at No. 3, defeating Danica Sutherland, 6-1, 6-1.
Ainsley Bolen also picked up a straight-set victory at No. 4, topping Sarah McClure, 6-3, 6-4.
Emory & Henry earned its lone point at No. 5 singles, where Madeline Young defeated
Destanie Hunt-DiOrio, 6-4, 6-1. Ferrum's
Emily Whitlow closed out the afternoon with a comeback victory at No. 6 singles. After dropping the opening set to Fabiana Maqueira, 6-4, Whitlow rallied to take the second set, 7-5, then won a super tiebreaker, 10-6.
