FERRUM, Va. – Ferrum College picked up a Conference Carolinas men's basketball win over Shorter University at home, winning 99-79 this afternoon at Swartz Gym.

SENIOR DAY
Ferrum honored five graduating players with a pre-game Senior Day ceremony. Players honored include
Alfredo Abel-Rivera,
Sterling Charles,
Eden Davis,
Abdulh Diaby and
Gerren Jones, all of whom made significant contributions to the program the past few years. Four of the seniors honored scored in double figures this afternoon.
THE BASICS
Ferrum raced out to an early lead, with
Eden Davis' three-pointer at 16:00 putting the Panthers on top 16-4. The Panthers surged from there, with
MJ Winstead's layup at 8:09 making it a 39-22 lead.
Gerren Jones made a jumper, was fouled and completed the three-point play with a free throw to extend the lead to 59-33 with 1:02 left in the first half, and the Panthers would go on to lead 61-35 at the break.
In the second half, Ferrum Jones made a layup at 16:43 to make it a 65-40 game, then Winstead made a driving layup to make it a 67-40 game at 15:54. Shorter had a jumper, a three-pointer and a layup, and two more baskets to get the lead down to 69-53 with just over 12 minutes left. The Panthers were never threatened from there and hung on for the league win.
