THE BASICS
After a scoreless first quarter, Wingate broke through in the second, capitalizing on short-field opportunities and big plays in the passing game to take a 14-0 lead into halftime.
Ferrum found a spark in the third quarter, putting together a 66-yard drive capped by a touchdown pass from
Payson Shreeve to
Samantha Pitzer to cut into the deficit. However, Wingate answered quickly with a scoring drive of its own, maintaining control at 20-6 heading into the final period.
