FERRUM, Va. – Vice President for Athletics Cleive Adams has announced the hiring of Jessica McGrath as Assistant Athletic Trainer. McGrath will work with third-year Head Athletic Trainer Samantha Wangner and her staff.
 
McGrath comes to Ferrum from Sterling College in Kansas, where she served for two years as an Athletic Training Student. McGrath earned her Master of Science in Athletic Training in May 2026. She worked with Sterling's football, women's basketball, track & field, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's soccer programs. She also worked with the Wichita State University women's basketball program. McGrath also served with the Summer Camp Health Staff at University of Wisconsin at Whitewater from June through August 2025. 

"We're excited to welcome Jess to our Sports Medicine team," said Wangner. "Her experiences and passion align with our mission to deliver exceptional care to our student-athletes."

As an undergraduate student at York University in Nebraska, McGrath served as a student athletic trainer, where she gained valuable experience in baseball, basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball and wrestling. She earned two Bachelor of Science degrees from York in Biology and Psychology in 2024, while minoring in Athletic Training.
 
At Ferrum, McGrath will work primarily with Ferrum's football, men's basketball, women's flag football and men's golf teams.
