Jacquis McCray joined the Ferrum coaching staff in February 2020 as Assistant Football Coach.He was promoted to Defensive Coordinator in May 2021. McCray previously served as Assistant Football Coach at Northwest High School in Maryland and prior to that, served a year as Assistant Football Coach at Stevenson University in Maryland, where he served as Defensive Coordinator and worked with defensive backs. The Mustangs were Centennial-MAC Bowl participants and had six All-Conference selections on defense, three All-ECAC selections on defense, and two D3football.com Team of the Week selections on defense.

Prior to his work at Stevenson, McCray spent 10 years as Assistant Football Coach at Salisbury University. He worked with the defensive line and linebackers at Salisbury, helping the Seagulls make NCAA appearances in 2007, 2010, 2012 and 2015. Salisbury made ECAC Bowl appearances in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2013 and 2016. The Seagulls won the Empire 8 Conference title in 2011 and 2012, and the New Jersey Athletic Conference title in 2015.

McCray also spent a season as Assistant Football Coach at Cheyney University in Pennsylvania in 2014 and at Annapolis High School in Maryland in 2017, serving as Defensive Coordinator at both schools.
