Marcus Mayo rushed for over 100 yards each as Ferrum College posted a 46-21 USA South Athletic Conference football win over Greensboro College tonight on the road.
Vann had 126 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries, while Mayo had 121 yards on 11 carries. A third Ferrum running back, FB
Matt Lucas, flirted with the 100-yard rushing mark as well. Lucas had 98 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, helping Ferrum roll up 500 yards in total offense, including 469 yards rushing.
Ferrum scored on the first play of the game when Le'Bryan Patterson took the opening kickoff 78 yards for a touchdown. Clint Slappey added a field goal in the first quarter and another in the second quarter to open a 13-0 lead.
Greensboro scored on a 63-yard pass from Mike Caparaso to Matt Martin in the second quarter, followed by a Vann TD run and a
Matt Dobson to
Quinn Tibbs TD pass for a 26-7 halftime lead.
The two teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter, Greensboro on a 91-yard pass from Caparaso to Torrey Lowe, Ferrum on a Lucas 38-yard run. Vann scored his second TD of the night, as did Patterson on fourth-quarter rushes. Greensboro got a final score on a Calvin Bacon to Charles Johnson pass.
Greensboro (2-6, 0-5 USA South) had 337 yards total offense, 271 passing and 68 passing.
Maureik Goode led the Ferrum defense with 11 tackles and a sack.
Ferrum (7-1, 5-0 USA South) will play its final regular season game next Saturday, Nov. 8, at Ferrum against reigning USA South champion North Carolina Wesleyan College.
