FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College upended Averett University 3-2 at home tonight in USA South Athletic Conference volleyball, winning a tight five-set match. Set sccores were 19-25, 28-26, 25-22, 17-25, 18-16.

Jessica Flanagan led Ferrum with 26 kills and 11 digs. Freshman
Mallory Stratton was a force at the net as well, recording 12 kills for Ferrum, many on key turning points of the match.
Jessica Washburn and
Jenni Carter split time at setter, recording 26 and 17 assists, respectively.
Lauren Thurman, who set school records this year for single game and career digs, posted 27 digs tonight.
Hannah Shumaker had 22 digs, while Carter had 14.
Jordan Maupin led Averett (5-11, 4-2 USA South) with 20 kills and 22 digs. Shannon Andy had 13 kills and Brittany Moore had 12. Jesse Jones handled the lion's share os setting for AU, posting 49 assists. Jones also had 15 digs, while Meredith Schwane had 24 and Marie Keatts had 10.
Ferrum (3-9, 3-3 USA South) will be back in action Thursday, Sept. 25, hosting Bridgewater College. The non-conference match gets underway at 7 p.m. in Swartz Gymnasium.
