FERRUM, Va. – Ferrum College opened a 17-0 second-quarter lead, only to see Greensboro College charge back for a 27-24 win over the Panthers in USA South football action this afternoon at W.B. Adams Stadium.
Scott Puschell was successful on a 28-yard field goal attempt at 9:15 of the first quarter for a 3-0 Ferrum lead, then
Makya Jackson scored the first of his two touchdowns on a 17-yard reception from
Matt Dobson with 1:59 remaining in the first.
Mike Vann made it 17-0 Ferrum on a 35-yard TD reception from Dobson at 13:10 of the second quarter. Greensboro came back to scored two passing TDs, a 74-yarder by Brandon Richardson and a 38-yarder by Antwan Thorpe, both from Seth Adams. Thorpe's score came with three second left in the first half.
Nathan Scott scored on a pair of TD receptions at 4:00 of the third quarter and 8:56 of the fourth quarter, respectively, to put the Pride on top 27-17. Scott's first TD was a 51-yarder, followed by an 18-yard score.
Ferrum would score once more when Dobson found Jackson from 14-yards out with 1:01 left to play, but it wasn't enough as Greensboro was able to run out the clock.
Vann had 118 yards rushing on 16 carries. Dobson was 10-23 passing for 142 yards and three touchdowns, with one interception and a sack.
Maureik Goode was in on 12 tackles, including five solo, seven assisted, and two for loss.
Adams was 18-20 passing for 286 yards and four TDs for Greensboro. Richardson made five receptions for 108 yards and a score for the Pride. Allen Stallings and Andres Platt were each in on 12 tackles for Greensboro (3-3, 1-2 USA South), six solo and six assisted.
Ferrum (3-3, 1-2 USA South) will be back in action next Saturday, Oct. 24, at Shenandoah University. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Shentel Stadium in Winchester, Virginia.
