FERRUM, Va. -- The Ferrum College volleyball team opened a 2-0 lead, only to see Averett University come back to post a 3-2 win over the Panthers in USA South volleyball action tonight at Swartz Gym.
Set scores were 17-25, 18-25, 25-17, 25-23, 15-12. Prior to the match, Ferrum honored its two graduating seniors
Jessica Flanagan and
Chrissy Panuska.
Ferrum was led by Flanagan,
Rachel Shumaker and
Kayla Trippeer, who had 20, 15 and 14 kills, respectively. Shumaker added 18 digs, Trippeer had 12 and Flanagan had 11.
Hannah Shumaker had 29 assists, while
Jenni Carter had 20.
Averett (19-11, 11-2 USA South) was led by Shannon Andy and Jordan Maupin, who each registered 14 kills for the Cougars. Marie Keatts had 16 digs, and Jesse Jones had 43 assists.
Ferrum (12-16, 5-8 USA South) returns to action Saturday, Oct. 24, at a USA South quad in Newport News, Virginia. The Panthers face Meredith College at 1 p.m., followed by Peace College at 3 p.m.
