FERRUM, Va. -- Three Ferrum College volleyball players earned All-Conference honors this year, led by senior outside hitter
Jessica Flanagan, who was named to the first team.
Flanagan led the team in kills this season with 509. She had a .252 attack percentage, 435 digs, 27 service aces and 23 blocks.
Flanagan closes out her career with a school record 1616 career digs. She is also second on team career kills list with 1631 and second on the career attacks list with 4719.
This is Flanagan's fourth consecutive All-Conference honor, including a second-team selection in 2008 and honorable mentions in 2007 and 2006. She is one of only three players to have earned All-Conference four times, joining Lora Hicks (1989-92) and Mindy Altice (2004-07).
Joining Flanagan on the All-Conference team are freshman middle blocker
Kayla Trippeer and freshman outside hitter
Rachel Shumaker. Trippeer was named to the third team, while Shumaker earned honorable mention.
Trippeer led the team this season in blocks with 107 and aces with 44. She added 288 kils and 231 digs. Shumaker led the team in digs with 437, and added 373 kills and 39 aces. Freshman setter
Jenni Carter is Ferrum's designee to the USA South Volleyball All-Sportsmanship Team.
Christopher Newport University's Caitlyn Jansen and Kara Elder were named Player and Rookie of the Year, respectively. CNU's Lindsay Birch earned Coach of the year honors after leading the Captains to an undefeated regular season against league opponent. Averett University's Marie Keatts was named Libero of the Year.
Ferrum finished 16-19 under fifth-year Head Coach Nancy Howlett. The Panthers lose two players to graduation, Flanagan and
Chrissy Panuska, and 10 players are eligible to return for the 2010 season.
