FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College's women's basketball team fell 68-65 at home tonight to USA South opponent Averett University.
Kristen Keith had 18 points and 16 rebounds in the loss for Ferrum, both game-high totals. For Keith, it was her eighth double-double in 15 game this year.
Ashley Norton had 17 points, including a pair of three-point baskets.
Tesla Akers had 15 points, while
Brittney Bullock had 13 points and nine rebounds. Akers was 9-11 from the free-throw line.
The Cougars were led by Kaneshia Slade and Liz Martin, who had 14 points each. Ashley Washington added 13 points, and Mette Scheiman had 12 points and seven assists for Averett (9-5, 6-3 USA South).
Ferrum trailed by 55-41 with 7:46 left to play and went on a 13-0 run over the next four minutes to cut the lead to 55-54. Averett went back on top by five, courtesy of a pair of lay-ups by Liz Martin and Kristyn Wharton, and never looked back.
Averett led 27-26 at halftime. The Cougars shot 45% for the game, while the Panthers shot 43%. With the win, Averett completes a season sweep of Ferrum, having won 63-62 Jan. 6 in Danville.
Ferrum (10-5, 6-4 USA South) will be back in action Sunday, January 24, at North Carolina Wesleyan College. The USA South game tips off at 2 p.m. in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
