DANVILLE, Va. -- Averett University opened the game with a 25-9 run and never looked back in beating Ferrum 69-51 in USA South men's basketball action tonight at the Grant Center. It was the league-opener for both teams.
The Panthers saw no players score in double digits.
Garry Brandt led Ferrum with nine points, followed by
Nick English and
Henry Hall with eight each.
Averett (4-8, 1-0 USA South) got 18 points from Kenny Hart, while Brandon Malone had 17 points. Ferrum out-rebounded Averett 40-36, but committed 27 turnovers.
Ferrum (6-7, 0-1 USA South) will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 9 at home against Methodist University. The USA South doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m. in Swartz Gym with the women's game, followed by the men at 4 p.m.
