
DANVILLE, Va. -- Liz Martin's go-ahead basket with 2.4 second remaining in the game gave Averett University a 63-62 USA South women's basketball victory tonight at the Grant Center.
After the basket, Ferrum's
Ashley Norton was fouled but missed the second of two free throws and Averett controlled the rebound to hang on for the win. The win snapped a seven-game win streak over the Cougars.
Kristen Keith had 20 points and 17 rebounds for the Panthers, both game-high totals.
Tesla Akers had 12 points in the loss.
Averett (5-3, 2-1 USA South) got 18 points from Ashley Washington and 17 from Mette Scheiman. Deandra Brown and Martin had 110 and 10 points, respectively for the Cougars.
Ferrum (6-3, 2-2 USA South) will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 9 at home against Methodist University. The USA South doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m. in Swartz Gym with the women's game, followed by the men at 4 p.m.
