KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Ferrum College softball team opened play in the 2010 Rebel Spring Games Feb. 27-28 with three wins in four games. The Panthers beat Alverno College 11-2and dropped a tight 5-4 game to Rochester Institute of Technology. The Panthers then won two Feb. 28, 5-4 over Clarke University and 3-1 over the College of St. Benedict.
Rachel Shumaker went 2-2 against Alverno with three runs, and
Heather Littles went 2-3 with two doubles an RBI and a run.
Kaitlyn Culler pitcher four innings to earn the win, allowing no earned runs and striking out four. Shumaker went 2-4 with two RBI against RIT.
In the win over Clarke,
Kashina Hancock went 2-4 with a run and an RBI.
Hannah Shumaker went 2-4 with a run and a stolen base.
Allyson Stevens was credited with the win, she pitched four innings, allowed no earned runs and struck out four.
Rachel Shumaker went 2-3 with a pair of runs scored in the win over St. Benedict, while pitching two innings in relief to get the win on the mound. In that game, she allowed no hits or runs and struck out three.
Ferrum (3-3) returns to action Monday, March 1, with a game each against Beloit College and Gwynedd-Mercy College at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
