FERRUM, Va. -- The Ferrum College softball team completed a USA South sweep March 17 over Greensboro College, taking the first game 2-1 and the nightcap 4-2 at Franklin Community Bank Field.
Kaitlyn Culler got the win in the first game, throwing a complete 7-inning game. She scattered eight hits over seven innings, allowed one earned run, walked one and struck out two.
Rachel Shumaker went 3-3 at the plate and drove in a run.
Megan Barger went 2-3, plated a run and drove in another.
In the second game,
Hannah Shumaker earned the win, pitching all seven innings. She allowed six hits and an earned run, walked one and fanned six. Shumaker also went 2-3 at the plate with a run and an RBI. Barger and Culler each went 2-3 with an RBI for the Panthers.
Cyndel Hensen had four base hits in the two games for Greensboro (9-9-1, 1-3 USA South). Hannah Pennell and Btittany Evans earned the losses on the mound for the Pride.
Ferrum (10-8, 2-0 USA South) returns to action Friday and Saturday, March 19-20, with a pair of home doubleheaders. Coach Vickie Van Kleeck's team will face non-conference opponent Emory & Henry College Friday at 5 p.m. The Panthers then host Meredith College Saturday at 2 p.m. in a USA South series.
