Ferrum 6, Methodist 5
Ferrum 3, Shenandoah 1

BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Ferrum College picked up three wins today to stay alive in the 2010 USA South Softball Tournament being held at Springwood Park.  All three were elimination games for Ferrum.

Coach Vickie Van Kleek's "cardiac kids", the tournament's #4 seed, eliminated #8 North Carolina Wesleyan College 9-4 to open the day.  The Panthers then sent #3 Methodist University and #6 Shenandoah University home in the afternoon with 6-5 and 3-1 wins, respectively.

Kaitlyn Culler earned all three wins on the mound.  Against N.C. Wesleyan, she threw three innings in relief, allowing two hits and an earned run, while striking out two.  She then pitched 5.1 innings in relief against Methodist, allowing three hits and no earned runs, with two strikeouts.

Culler closed the day with a complete game seven-inning four-hitter against Shenandoah.  In that game, she allowed one earned run and struck out four.  Culler improves to 15-5 as a freshman.

Meagan Farrell had a solid day for the Panthers, going 6-10 in three games with a double, three runs and four RBI.  Ferrum (30-15) set a new school record for season wins today.  The previous mark was set in 2004, when the Panthers finished 28-15-1.

Ferrum will face #1 seed Christopher Newport University Sunday at 10 a.m.  The winner will advance to the championship game Sunday afternoon against #2 Greensboro College.
