Ferrum Beats Maryville 27-3 in Football

MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- Ferrum College evened its record at 2-2 with a 27-3 USA South football win this afternoon at Maryville College. Dominique Lesine, Dontavious Gilbert and Steven Harris all scored first-half rushing touchdowns for the Panthers, while QB Marcus Mayo had a 43-yard TD run in the third quarter.

Lesine opened scoring with a four-yard run at 9:11 of the first quarter, followed by Gilbert's 10-yard run at 1:24 of the first. Harris ran in from nine yards out at 9:15 of the second quarter to put the Panthers up 20-0 at halftime. Scott Puschell was 3-4 in PATs.

Maryville avoided the shutout with a 24-yard field goal from Andrew Noboa with 6:32 left in the game. Dakota Crews led the Maryville defensive effort with 11 tackles, while Kane Crowell and James Roe had eight each.

Harris rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown to lead the Panthers (2-2, 1-0 USA South). Mayo had 94 yards rushing and a score, and was 7-16 for 122 yards passing with an interception and no sacks.

Ferrum's defense held the Scots (0-4, 0-1 USA South) to just 101 yards in total offense, including 80 passing and 21 on the ground. Lynwood Pickett had nine tackles for Ferrum, including four for loss and two sacks. Chris Freycinet had seven tackles, including four for loss and a sack.
