Football Stays in Hunt for USA South Title with 35-12 Win Over Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Ferrum College led 35-0 after three quarters en route to a 35-12 USA South Athletic Conference football victory over Greensboro College in front of a crowd of 1020 fans this afternoon at Jamieson Stadium.

Quarterback Tim Reynolds had 108 yards rushing and two touchdowns, and was 15-21 passing for 113 yards and two TDs. Reynolds had a five-yard score in the first quarter and a nine-yarder in the second quarter to put Ferrum on top 14-0.  Tyler Brubaker hauled in a 2-yard pass from Reynolds with seven seconds left in the first half for a 21-0 lead, and then Makya Jackson made an 18-yard scoring reception early in the third quarter. 

With 4:11 left in the third quarter, Tarrell Owens picked off an errant pass from Greensboro quarterback Ryan Throndset at the Ferrum two yard line, and returned it 98 yards for a score.  On Greensboro's next possession, Owens against picked off a Throndset pass.  He closed the game with five tackles, including one for loss, and two interceptions.  Kenny Tapscott led the Panthers in tackles with eight, including six solo stops.  Ray Hinds, who had a second-quarter interception, also had five tackles. 

Throndset was 21-40 passing for 171 yards and two touchdowns for the Pride (4-4, 2-3 USA South), while Warren Scott had 119 yards rushing.  Julian Cinotti had 12 tackles for Greensboro, including eight solo and one for loss.

With two games remaining, Ferrum is tied with Christopher Newport atop the league standings at 4-1.  The Captains eked out a 17-10 win over North Carolina Wesleyan College this afternoon on the road.  LaGrange College, which entered the day in a three-way tie with Ferrum and CNU, fell 26-23 in overtime to Methodist University today at home. 

Ferrum (6-2, 4-1 USA South) closes the regular season with a pair of home games, Nov. 3 against LaGrange and Nov. 10 against Maryville College.  Kickoff for both games is 1 p.m. at W.B. Adams Stadium.  Prior to the Maryville game, the College will honor 12 graduating seniors.
