MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- Travis Felder rushed for 137 yards and three scores on 17 carries to lead Maryville College to a 53-14 USA South Athletic Conference football win over Ferrum College this afternoon at Honaker Field.
Ferrum got on the board first, courtesy of
Wesley Franklin's 31-yard field goal. Maryville then scored three straight touchdowns on 43-yard and 14-yard passes from Evan Pettinger to Ed Johnson and Blake Williams, and a 21-yard run by Felder to take a 19-3 lead.
Johnson hauled in another TD score from Pittenger, this time a 19-yard catch and the Scots led 26-3. Ferrum battled back to trim the lead to 26-14 at halftime on a 15-yard touchdown pass from
Tim Reynolds to
Matthew Kennell, a Reynolds two-point PAT and a 22-yard field goal by Franklin.
In the second half, it was all Maryville as the Scots scored four more touchdowns while holding the Panthers scoreless. Felder had TD runs of two and 39 yards, and Johnson hauled in his third TD reception of the day, this time from 53 yards out. Nick Myers capped scoring with a four-yard run with less than three minutes left to play.
Pittenger was 14-18 passing for 289 yards and four touchdowns, with no sacks and no interceptions to help keep Maryville unbeaten in league play. Reynolds was 11-25 passing for 149 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers. Dylan Wolfenbarger made a game-high 18 tackles for the Scots (7-1, 5-0 USA South), while
Chris Ham made seven stops for Ferrum. Maryville closed the game with 546 yards in total offense to Ferrum's 384.
Ferrum (2-5, 2-2 USA South) will be back in action Saturday, Nov. 2, at North Carolina Wesleyan College. The USA South game gets underway at 1 p.m. in Rocky Mount. Coach Dave Harper's team will close out the season with a pair of home USA South games Nov. 9 and Nov. 16 against LaGrange College and Christopher Newport University.
