FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College led by 22 points midway through the second half, but had to withstand a furious rally down the stretch to hang on for a 78-72 non-conference women's basketball win over Eastern Mennonite University this afternoon at Swartz Gymnasium.
The Panthers led 61-39 after a pair of free throws by
Kemani Crawford with 12:29 left to play. The Royals used a 19-6 run to get the lead down to 10 points with seven minutes left, then went on a 12-7 run to make it a 74-70 game with 35 seconds showing on the clock.
Jacole Hairston had 21 points on 9-15 shooting for Ferrum.
Kayla Goins had 14 points, including four three-point baskets,
Shea Smith had 13 points, and
Katy Kipps had 10 points and nine rebounds. Bianca Ygarza had 28 points for Eastern Mennonite (6-2), and Shakeerah Sykes had 13 points and eight rebounds.
Ferrum (2-0) was scheduled to play the Apprentice School Sunday, Dec. 8, at home, but the game has been postponed due to a forecast of inclement weather across the state or Virginia. The game has been rescheduled to Sunday, Jan. 12, at 2:00 p.m. in Ferrum.
