FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The top-seeded Ferrum College women's basketball team picked up a 74-59 win over #8 Averett University in the quarterfinals of the 2013 USA South Tournament, being played at Crown Center Arena.
Katy Kipps led the Panthers with 14 points and six rebounds.
The Panthers led 35-22 at halftime, then opened their biggest lead of the game at 20 points with just over four minutes left in the game.
Jacole Hairston had 14 points and seven rebounds, while
Tesla Akers had 11 points and six rebounds.
Shea Smith and
Kylene Culler each had eight points in the win, with Smith dishing out five assists.
Mette Sheiman led all scorers with 18 points for the Cougars (8-18). Shannon Young and Jessica Myers had 13 and 11 points, respectively, as Averett ends its season with the loss. Ferrum out-rebounded Averett 45-37.
Ferrum (23-3) will face #4 North Carolina Wesleyan College in Saturday's semifinal round at 1:00 p.m. at Crown Center Arena. The Bishops beat #5 Methodist University today 68-63 to advance to the semifinals.
