FERRUM, Va. -- North Carolina Wesleyan College took the final game of a USA South Athletic Conference baseball series, winning 8-7 today at Panther Field. The win gave the Bishops a 3-0 sweep over the Panthers this weekend. Ferrum led 7-6 after seven innings, only to see the Bishops score two runs in the eighth inning and hold on for the win.
Hank Parsley had a three-run homer in the sixth inning to put Ferrum out in front 7-5, but N.C. Wesleyan came back to score a run in the seventh inning and two more in the eighth for the winning margin.
Wes Walker went 4-5 with two doubles, two RBI and a run.
Taryn Hayden went 2-5 with a pair of doubles and a stolen base, scored three runs and drove in another.
Matt Reynolds went 2-4 with a double, a run and an RBI.
Javin Metz got the loss, pitcing two-thirds of an inning and allowing two hits, two runs and a walk. Starter
Tyler Easterly scattered seven hits over seven innings, allowing six earned runs and a pair of walks, while striking out five.
Justin DiSanto went 3-4 for the Bishops (18-18, 14-7 USA South), and Jake Alexander went 2-4 with a run. Chase Johnson earned the win, pitching the final three innings in relief. He allowed one hit, no runs and a walk, and struck out one.
Ferrum (11-20, 6-18 USA South) returns to action Wednesday, April 3, at home against Guilford College. The non-conference game gets underway at 6:00 p.m. Coach Darren Hodges' team will then host Southern Virginia University Friday, April 5, at 6:00 p.m. in another non-conference game.
