FERRUM, Va. --
Tim Reynolds was 20-40 passing for 222 yards, a touchdown and an interception as Ferrum College suffered a 35-16 USA South Athletic Conference football loss to visiting Huntingdon College this afternoon at W.B. Adams Stadium. Reynolds also rushed 13 times for 93 yards and a score.
Brantley Carr and Jamichael Bibb spotted the Hawks a 14-0 lead with touchdown receptions of 72 yards and nine yards, respectively, from Luke Bailey.
Jacob Smoak trimmed the lead to 14-3 with an 18-yard field goal with seven minutes left in the first half.
Jay Ware scored on a two-yard run to make it 21-3 at 11:46 of the third quarter, then Reynolds scored on a 20-yard run to make it 20-9 at 8:07 of the third. Ware scored his second touchdown of the day on a three-yard run to make it 28-9, then Bibb hauled in a 28-yard pass from Bailey with just over a minute to go in the third to put the Hawks on top 35-9 heading into the fourth quarter.
Matthew Kennell caught a five-yard pass from Reynolds for the final score of the game with 3:33 left to play. The Hawks rolled up 426 yards in total offense to Ferrum's 416. Bailey was 15-28 passing for 295 yards and three touchdowns to lead Huntingdon (5-2, 4-1 USA South) to the win. Zack Brownell made 16 tackles for Huntingdon, while
Mike Hawthorne led the Panthers with eight stops.
Ferrum (0-6, 0-4 USA South) will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 25, at Averett University. The USA South game kicks off at 6:00 p.m. at Daly Field in Danville, Virginia. Averett is led by first-year Head Coach Clieve Adams, a Ferrum grad and former Assistant Coach for the Panthers.
