FERRUM, Va.--
Jessie O'Conner had 12 kills to lead Ferrum College to a 3-2 USA South volleyball win over Greensboro College tonight at Swartz Gym. Set scores were 25-23, 20-25, 26-24, 18-25, 16-14.
The two teams were deadlocked at 14-14 In the fifth and deciding set, when
Jessica Turner drilled a pair of kills to give Ferrum the win. The first one came off an
Emily Danner set to give Ferrum its second match point of the night at 15-14. The second one came off a
Hannah Blake set and sent the Panthers into a wild celebration in winning the USA South contest. The win kept Ferrum in the hunt for a spot in the league's post-season tournament.
Danner had 29 assits for Ferrum, while Blake had 13 assists.
Ashley Ammann had 28 digs and nine kills and
Sarah Hendrix had 27 digs. Turner closed with 12 digs and eight kills, and
Ebony Crawford had nine kills. Greensboro (14-12, 6-8 USA South) got 17 kills from Megan Baranko and 15 kills from Liz Widenhouse. Breana Baker had 21 digs and Widenhouse had 16 digs.
Ferrum (5-19, 4-12 USA South) returns to action Friday, Oct. 24, at a USA South quad meet in Danville, Virginia. The Panthers take on Willam Peace University at 3:00 p.m., then face North Carolina Wesleyan College at 5:00 p.m. Both matches will be played at Averett University.
