FERRUM, Va. -- Ashley Ammann had 13 kills and 20 digs to pace Ferrum College to a 3-1 non-conference volleyball win over Hollins University tonight at Swarzt Gym during Dig Pink Night. Prior to the match, Ferrum players were introduced as either playing "in honor of" or "in memory of" someone they knew that has been affected by breast cancer.

After the second set, cancer survivors in attendance were recognized with a bouquet of flowers. A silent auction, which began at noon, ended with the conclusion of the match. All proceeds from tonight's Dig Pink Night go to the Side-Out Foundation, which awards grants to medical research organizations and entities dedicated to providing compassionate support to breast cancer patients and their families.

The Panthers grabbed a 1-0 lead in winning the first set 25-19. Hollins battled back to tie the match at 1-1 after winning the second set 25-20. The Panthers trailed 24-23 in the third set but rallied to win the final three points to take the set 26-24, then closed with a 25-16 win in the fourth and final set.

Emily Danner had 23 assists and 11 digs, and Sarah Hendrix had 23 digs for the Panthers (6-21). Hannah Blake added 13 assists and Jessica Turner had 10 digs in the win. Lauren Hays had 14 kills, Jordan Persinger had 10 kills and Lela Moore had 25 assists for Hollins (4-22).

Ferrum (6-21) returns to action Thursday, Oct. 20 at USA South rival Mary Baldwin College. Coach jessica Flanagan's team then returns to Swartz Gym Saturday, Nov. 1, to close out the season with a non-conference match against Randolph College at 1:00 p.m.
