FERRUM, Va. -- John Papillion rushed for 123 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Noah Shuler rushed for 120 yards and a score to lead Methodist University to a 42-7 USA South Athletic Conference football win over Ferrum College this afternoon at W.B. Adams Stadium. The Monarchs posted 425 yards in total offense to Ferrum's 280 yards.
The Monarchs (6-3, 5-3 USA South) opened a 21-0 lead at the 10-minute mark of the second quarter.
Dominique Lesine helped Ferrum avoid the shutout with a 20-yard touchdown run with 4:53 left in the first half. Methodist held Ferrum scoreless in the second half and scored another 21 points to win handily.
Methodist quarterback Max Reber was an efficient 14-18 passing for 185 yards and three touchdowns and one sack, and was not intercepted. Marco Grimsley hauled in two Reber passes to close the game with 93 receiving yards and a touchdown. Bryan Bing had 10 tackles for Methodist.
Harvey Taylor was 3-12 passing for Ferrum for 53 yards, was intercepted twice and was sacked five times.
Shane Brown had 86 yards rushing on 10 carries.
Breon Washington had nine tackles including six solo stops for the Panthers, while
Jatavious Adams and
Rashad Johnson made eight tackles each.
Ferrum (1-8, 1-6 USA South) will close out the season Saturday, Nov. 15, at LaGrange College. The USA South game gets underway at 1:00 p.m. in LaGrange, Georgia.
