FERRUM, Va. --
Shea Smith topped 1,000 career points today while leading Ferrum College to a 95-64 USA South women's basketball victory over Meredith College this afternoon at Swartz Gymnasium. Smith led all scorers with 21 points and has now become the 19th player to join Ferrum's 1000-Point Club. Smith now has 1001 career points.
Katy Kipps, who reached the 1000-Point club during the last home game, was able to produce 18 points. Smith led the floor with seven assists for the Panthers and was a perfect 10-10 from the free-throw line.
For Meredith (7-13, 5-9 USA South), McKenzi Edwards and Rah'nika Jones contributed 16 and 15 points, respectively. Kim Hinton had 10 points. Edwards was able to record five assists, while Jones led the floor with six rebounds.
#17 Ferrum (19-1, 13-1 USA South) returns to action tomorrow afternoon at home. The USA South double-header against William Peace College gets underway at 2 p.m. The men's basketball game will follow immediately after. Both teams will be celebrating Senior Day as this double-header will be the last time either team plays at home in the regular season.
