FERRUM, Va. -- The Ferrum College women's basketball team has jumped five spots, and is now raned #12 in the nation in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches Poll. The Panthers also climbed three spots in the D3hoops.com poll, and are ranked #15 nationally by the online publication.
DePauw (Ind.) University is ranked #1 in both polls. Hope (Mich.) College, Whitman (Wash.) College, and Thomas More (Ky.) College are ranked in the top four in both polls, but in different orders.
Ferrum is 20-1 overall and leads the USA South Athletic Conference with a 14-1 league mark. Coach
Bryan Harvey's team features four players in double-digit scoring;
Jacole Hairston (12.9 ppg),
Katy Kipps (12.5 ppg),
Shea Smith (11.5 ppg) and
Kylene Culler (10.5 ppg). Culler and Kipps lead the team in rebounding, with 9.3 and 7.0 rpg averages, respectively, while Smith is averaging 6.6 assists per game.
The Panthers play tonight, Feb. 19, in a key USA South road game against Greensboro College. The Pride hold the #2 spot in the North Division standings. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. in Greensboro, North Carolina.
