STAUNTON, Va. -- Six players scored in double figures as Ferrum College mauled Mary Baldwin College 99-31 in USA South Athletic Conference women's basketball action tonight on the road.
Ferrum jumped out to a 26-4 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half and eventually took a 47-13 lead into the locker room at halftime. The second half more of the same as the Panthers scored at will. Mary Baldwin attempted just two free throws all night, wih Precious Parker missing both.
Jacole Hairston had 16 points, while
Kylene Culler and
Lindsay Martin had 13 each.
Boreika Burwell had 12 points and
Kemani Crawford had 11.
Shea Smith added 11 points, 11 assists, six steals and five rebounds for the #12-ranked Panthers.
Shanice Miles scored 19 of her team's 31 points to lead the Fighting Squirrels (0-23, 0-17 USA South). Mary Baldwin shot 23% from the floor, while Ferrum shot 60%.
Ferrum (21-2, 15-2 USA South) returns to action this Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 22-23, with a pair of USA South road games. Coach
Bryan Harvey's team will play at Methodist University Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and at North Carolina Wesleyan College Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Both games are the front end of USA South doubleheaders in which the men will follow the women immediately.
