ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- Christopher Newport University opened a commanding lead after one quarter en route to a 59-37 non-conference women's basketball win over Ferrum College this afternoon in the first day of action at the 2015 Jean Edge Classic, being held at North Carolina Wesleyan College.

How It HappenedChristopher Newport led 24-9 after the first quarter and took a 32-18 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Captains slowly pulled away in the third and fourth quarters, shooting over 35% from the floor for the game to Ferrum's 30%. The Panthers won the battle of the boards 47-34.
