FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College will travel to Danville, Virginia, this afternoon to open play in the 2016 USA South Volleyball Tournament. The Panthers are the #5 seed and will take on #4 Greensboro College at 5:00 p.m. in the first round. Averett University, the East Division top seed, will host the Ferrum-Greensboro first round game, and will then take on the winner in the quarterfinals immediately following the match.
Ferrum brings a 15-17 record into the match, while Greensboro comes in at 19-11. The two schools played each other once during the regular season, with the Panthers pulling out a 3-1 win October 13 at home.
Hannah Helbert led Ferrum that night with 16 kills,
Cheyenne Strickland had 37 assists, Sarah Handrix had 24 digs, and
Jessica Turner had eight kills and 11 digs. Shayla Moss had 11 kills, Brandy Taylor had 10 kills, Katie Clark had 21 assists, Darian Bolt had 19 assists and Tori Belcher had 23 digs for the Pride.
If Ferrum defeats Greensboro, then the Panthers would face #1 Averett in the quarterfinals at 7:30 p.m. Quarterfinal winners advance to the semifinals Nov. 4-5 at a site to be determined. This is a single-elimination tournment. The USA South Tournament champion collects the league's automatic qulifier into the NCAA Div. III Tournament.
