DANVILLE, Va. -- Ferrum College dropped a USA South Athletic Conference volleyball match tonight on the road, falling 3-1 to Averett University at the Grant Center. Set scores were 25-13, 25-13, 14-25, 25-18.

THE BASICS
Averett grabbed the first and second sets, only to see the Panthers bounce back in taking the third set. Ferrum battled hard in the fourth and final set, but the Cougars closed it out to improve to 12-0 in the USA South and remain the only team unbeaten in league play. Reigning USA South Player of the Year Hannah Shields had 13 kills to lead Averett.

COACH'S THOUGHTS
"Averett has a reputation of being a great team and this year is certainly no different," said Head Coach Ruthanne Duffy. "Coming into a match against an undefeated USA South team is intimidating, especially for a youthful group like ours, but fortunately we were able to take a set away from them. If we play our game, we can compete with anyone and I think tonight is proof of that."

Duffy's team will host a tri-meet Saturday, Oct. 21, at Swartz Gym. The Panthers face USA South opponent William Peace University at 2:00 p.m. and Pfeiffer University in non-conference play at 4:00 p.m.
