LEXINGTON, Va. -- Ferrum College's baseball team picked up a non-conference road win over Washington and Lee University, routing the Generals 17-3 this afternoon at Dick Smith Field. The Panthers used a big fifth inning to break open the game and stop a four-game skid.

THE BASICS
The Panthers led 4-1 after four full innings, then exploded for 10 runs in the fifth inning to widen the lead to 14-1.
Garrett Dorton went 3-3 with two runs and two RBI for Ferrum.

Christian Mosier each had a pair of base hits.
Sam Suite (1-0) allowed three hits and one earned run in four innings with three strikeouts to earn the win. Starter Jack Boyce (0-1) absorbed the loss for the Generals after pitching 1.2 innings and allowing five hits and three earned runs.
COACH'S THOUGHTS
"It was a great team win today," said Head Coach
Ryan Brittle. "We executed our offense early on and were able to tack on runs to put the game away. Sam and the rest of our pitching staff did a great job throwing strikes and getting us off the field."
NEXT GAME
Brittle's squad opens USA South Athletic Conference play with a three-game weekend home series against Averett University Friday through Sunday, March 2-4. The two teams begin Friday at 6:00 p.m., then play Saturday at 3:00 p.m. and close out the series Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Panther Field.
