FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning, then held on for a 15-9 non-conference baseball win over visiting Lynchburg College tonight at Panther Field.

THE BASICS
Lynchburg jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but the Panthers scored a run in the bottom half of the frame, then added a run in the second and three in the third to grab a 5-4 lead.
Tim Ortega's two-run homer was part of a seven-run fifth inning that put Ferrum out in front 12-4.
Nathaniel Anthony went 4-5 with a triple, two runs and two RBI for Ferrum. Ortega closed the game 3-5 at the plate with a homer, a run, five RBI and a pair of stolen bases, while
Brandon West went 3-5 and scored a run. Starter
Drew Calohan (5-2) pitched 5.2 innings to get the win, allowing 11 hits, five earned runs and three walks with four strikeouts. Starter Jason Wood (1-3) absorbed the loss for the Hornets, allowing seven hits, five earned runs and two walks over three innings with a pair of strikeouts. Parker Shaffer had three base hits for Lynchburg.
