Ferrum Falls 19-13 to #16 Kutztown in Virginia Duals Title Match

HAMPTON, Va. -- #2 seed Ferrum College dropped a tight 19-13 match to top seeded Kutztown University (#16 NCAA Div. II) in the championship match of the 2020 Virginia Duals held the past two days at Hampton Coliseum. Earlier in the day, the Panthers beat Waynesburg 29-10 in the semifinals to earn their second straight trip to the title match.

THE BASICS
Austin Smith (149) earned a 10-2 major decision over Kutztown's Robbie Hazard in the championship match. Also winning decisions were Levi Englman (133), Malik Barr (174) and Braden Homsey (197). For Homsey, it was his third come-from-behind win in as many matches over the weekend, and Barr's victory came in overtime.

Against Waynesburg, Carlos Leyva (285) recorded a pin, while Smith and Englman posted major decisions. Winning decisions were Elijah Martin (157) and Malik Barr (174). Englman, Smith, Barr and Homsey all went 3-0 over the weekend.

BACK ON THE MAT
Yetzer's matmen will be back in action Sunday, January 19, at the Builder Open. Hosted by the Apprentice School, this year's tournament will be held at Kellam High School in Virginia Beach.
