FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College will host Virginia's prestigious Fargo Training Camp from Monday, June 29, through Thursday, July 2. The camp prepares boys and girls who have qualified for Fargo competition, the annual U.S. Marine Corps Junior and 16U Nationals.
"We are excited to host the top male and female wrestling athletes from across Virginia as they prepare for competition at Fargo," said Ferrum Director of Athletics, Cleive Adams. "Ferrum College is honored to have this opportunity, and we hope this camp is the beginning of a strong and lasting relationship with the Virginia organization that continues to grow, benefit Virginia wrestling, and further strengthen Ferrum's commitment to the sport across the Commonwealth for years to come."
The U.S. Marine Corps Junior and 16U Nationals, commonly known as "Fargo," is the nation's largest wrestling tournament, held annually in July at the FargoDome in Fargo, North Dakota. Fargo is not open to individual registration. Athletes must qualify and register through their respective state associations. Fargo divisions includes 16U (formerly Cadet) and Junior divisions for both boys and girls in freestyle and Greco-Roman. Winning a "Stop Sign" trophy in Fargo is considered one of the highest achievements in American high school wrestling.
"Speaking for Virginia/USA Wrestling with full support from Chairman Steve Steigler, we are grateful for our unified relationship with Ferrum College," said Virginia Olympic Director Mark Strickland. "VA/USA Wrestling is grateful and extremely excited to embrace the shared vision to invest in our youth development with a purpose to enhance lives and provide positive growth and future opportunities for our shared student-athletes. Our experience thus far concerning the hospitality and enthusiasm for this partnership is refreshing and only proves that both entities deeply share a fierce pride for the State of Virginia."
