MOUNT BERRY, Ga. -- Ferrum College scored a run in the fifth inning then hung on for a 3-2 non-conference baseball win this afternoon over previously unbeaten Berry College. The game is the first of three the Panthers will play this weekend in the 2020 Rawlings Southern Classic.

THE BASICS
Kyle Anstice walked to open the second inning, then Matt Yarbrough laced a single to right field that moved Anstice to third. A wild pitch allowed Anstice to score and Yarbrough to move to second.

Yarbrough advanced to third when Connor Dopp reached base on a field error, then scored on an error to put the Panthers out in front 2-0.

Berry's Dalton Smith ripped a two-RBI single to center field in the bottom of the fourth inning, allowing Dalton Turndow and Quinn Smith to score and knot the game at 2-2.

Isaac Yeaman doubled to left field to open the fifth inning, moved to third on a wild pitch, then scored the game-winning run on Sebastian Dexter's sacrifice fly to center field.

Starter Drew Calohan got the win after pitching a stellar 7.2 innings and striking out five batters. Sam McLaughlin earned his second save of the season after pitching the ninth inning. Berry starter Garrett West absorbed the loss for the Vikings, pitching five frames.

Brittle's team will be back in action Saturday, February 15, at Oglethorpe University. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. in Atlanta, Georgia. The Panthers will wrap up the three-game weekend Sunday, February 16, at 11:00 a.m. against Rhodes College at Oglethorpe.
