FERRUM, Virginia -- It was a four-run fifth and a six-run sixth that proved to be the difference Friday evening, as Ferrum College topped the College at Brockport 11-8 at Panther Field.
RECORDS
Ferrum (4-3)
Brockport (0-1)
THE BASICS
Brockport got things started in the visitor half of the third when Justin Pangburn lined a double to right field, scoring Reilly Workman. Pangburn would eventually come across to score later in the inning off of a Ryan Voight single through the right side, also scoring Nicholas Pastore and the Golden Eagles held an early 3-0 lead. Ferrum would get one back in the home half of the inning when Ozzie Torres scored via a Kyle Anstice single to right field.
The Panthers would be the next to strike in the fifth inning, this time with Torres scoring on a wild pitch. Grey Sherfey then sent a ball to deep right field, scoring Anstice and Darden Eure-Parrish on the three-bagger. Tim Ortega would eventually bring Sherfey across to score on a sac fly to center field, and the Panthers ended the frame with the 5-3 advantage.
Torres would again get things started for Ferrum in the sixth, scoring Issac Yeaman with a single through the left side. Eure-Parrish then laid down a bunt as Conner Dopp would come across to score. Sherfey would then come up to the plate with the bases juiced and clear them with his second triple of the game, again to deep right field. As in the inning before, Ortega would bring Sherfey across via the sacrafice fly and the Panthers held a commanding 11-3 lead.
The Golden Eagles were not going away that easy, as they got right back into it with a big seventh inning. Pangburn used an infield single to score Workman and then Voight would leave the yard with a three-run long ball to right center. Pinch hitter Jake Sisto would cap the inning off with a rope to left field, scoring Skyler Ohrvall and the Panther lead shrunk to 11-8.
Josh Greenway put the game out of reach when he brought Eure-Parrish around to score on a fielders choice, and Cory Peel came on in relief of starter Drew Calohan and shut the door on Brockport.
