SENIOR DAY
Prior to the game, the Panthers honored 12 seniors: Mitch Custer, Josh Greenway, Ty Lam, Brayden Moore, Jon Munsey, Darden Eure-Parrish, Carlton Redd, Grey Sherfey, Jacob Tomlin, Austin Vernon, Ethan Westgate and Matt Yarbrough.
GAME ONE
The Panthers were the first to get on the board in this one, as Grayson Chitwood came around to score on a wild pitch in the home half of the inning.
Washington and Lee would then answer back with a run of their own in the fourth. Mitchell Salvino's single through the left side of the infield was enough to bring Luke Czepiel around to score and knot the game up at one.
The Genreals used the fifth inning to push things out of reach as Czepiel brought Jason Volpicelli around to score and Brian Wickman would later score on a wild pitch. Ferrum would get one back in the frame off of a Justin Brady single, scoring Greenway, but that was as close as the Panthers would get.
Zack Perkins added an insurance run in the form of a passed ball in the seventh, and the 4-2 score line would hold throughout the ninth.
Will Davis (L, 2-3) took the loss for the Panthers on the mound after surrendering three earned runs on 12 hits across 7.0 innings pitches. Mason Shuffler (W, 1-0) earned the win for the Generals after going 5.0 innings and giving up 2 earned runs on three hits.
GAME TWO
As in game one, Ferrum jumped on the board early as Yarbrough picked up an RBI on a groundout to third, scoring Ozzie Torres. The Generals got one back in the second to tie things up but were then held scoreless for the next six frames.
The second inning saw Sherfey score on a General miscue and Rufus Hurdle score on a Greenway two-bagger, and Ferrum would take a 3-1 lead into the third. A Jackson Horton gound ball to second scored Grayson Reed in the third and the lead was pushed to 4-1.
The home half of the seventh frame was a big one, as the Panthers pulled away with a seven-spot to take a commanding 11-1 advantage. Yarbrough and Grayson Chitwood picked up RBI-singles and Sherfey, Hurdle, Torres and Greenway picked up RBIs on walks with the bases loaded.
Washington and Lee would try their hand at a comeback bid, picked up five runs in the last two innings, but Custer was able to come on in a ninth-inning jam and shut the door on the bid and was good enough to earn a split on the day for the Panthers.
Devon Boothe (W, 1-4) found his first win on the season on the bump in game two for the Panthers, going eight innings with five earned runs across 12 hits. Thomas Haller (L, 0-3) took the loss for Washington and Lee after giving up four runs, two earned, on four hits.
