DANVILLE, Va. -- Ferrum College fell in non-conference volleyball action to Averett University tonight on the road, falling 3-0 at the Grant Center. The non-conference match was the season opener for both teams. Set scores were 25-18, 25-17, 25-11.

THE BASICS
Averett raced out to an 11-3 lead in the first set, only to see the Panthers get back to within five points at 22-17. The Cougars closed out the set off a Ferrum attack error.

In the second set, Shelby Waltrip's kill put Ferrum out in front 9-6. The two teams then played neck and neck with Averett grabbing an 18-16 lead. The Cougars closed the set with a 7-1 run to grab a two sets to none lead.

Averett controlled the third and final set from the outset, jumping out to a 15-4 lead, and never looked back in completing the 3-0 win.
