WILLIAMSPORT, Pennsylvania -- The Ferrum College men's wrestling team closed out second action at the 2022 Budd Whitehill National Duals, hosted Friday and Saturday, January 7-8, at Lycoming College's Lamade Gym.
The Panthers topped Ohio Northern University's B team 22-19, then fell 30-15 to Castleton University's B team. Ferrum closed out the two-day event with a 1-3 mark, finishing 10th in a field of 12 teams

THE BASICS
Levi Englman (141 lbs), Tyler Ramirez (149), Elijah Martin (165) and Sam Slate all earned decisions against Ohio Northern, while JD McMillin (125) accepted a forfeit. Ferrum won despite forfeiting two weight classes to ONU's one forfeit.
In the match with Castleton, the Panthers won four of the seven contested matches, but it was not enough to offset going into the match with an 18-0 deficit due to forfeiting three weight classes.
McMillan (125) made a clean sweep of the weekend, each picking up his fourth win in as many matches. Also earning decisions against Castleton were Christian Hite (157) and Martin (165).

BEHIND HE WHISTLE
"We have yet to compete with our team at full strength. Regardless, we take the mat with great attitude and effort. Wrestling in a dual tournament and only able to fill seven weight classes due to COVID protocols put us at a severe disadvantage. The seven guys we had able to compete were grateful for the opportunity and gave great effort. We got compliments from a few other teams that were thankful we did not pull out of the event so everyone could get more mat time. Very appreciative for those compliments.
