FERRUM, Virginia -- Ferrum College's football team led by three points with four minutes left in the third quarter, only to see Averett University post a 24-20 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) comeback win this afternoon at W.B. Adams Stadium. Prior to the game, the team held a Senior Day ceremony for Ferrum's graduating players.

THE BASICS
Monzelle Campbell got Ferrum on the scoreboard early with a 13-yard touchdown run less than five minutes into the game for the only score of the first quarter. Will Caviness trimmed the lead to 7-3 with a 32-yard field goal at 12:01 od the second quarter for Averett.
Shawn Watlington gave Averett its first lead when he rushed for an eight-yard score at 1:24 of the second. Ferrum quarterback
Brayden Hawkins was intercepted at the Ferrum 35 yard line by Averett's Shyheim Watlington, who returned it to the FC 25. The Cougars capitalized three plays later, scoring on Tevarius Brooks' two-yard keeper up the middle to give Averett a 17-7 lead at the break.
Ferrum scored two third quarter touchdowns, at 11:58 on
Jesper Korkalainen's 41-yards scoring strike to
Deven Gray and at 4:01 on Campbell's 12-yard touchdown pass to Na-Shawn Greene, which put Ferrum back in front 20-17. Brooks then scored his second touchdown of the day, a two-yarder to open the fourth quarter at 14:57, and the Cougar defense did the rest.
Ferrum started a drive from its own one yard line at 5:26, driving to the Averett 23, where a Panther fumble was recovered by Averett with 2:07 left in regulation and the Cougars were able to run the clock out to collect their first-ever ODAC football win.
