WILLIAMSPORT, Pennsylvania -- Ferrum College's men's wrestling team is currently in seventh place after the first day of competition at the 2022 NCAA Division III Southeast Regional, being held Friday and Saturday, February 25-26, at Lycoming College.
OUT IN FRONT
Alvernia University leads the pack with 103.5 points, followed closely by Stevens Institute of Technology with 94 points. Averett University (78) is in third, Wilkes University (66) is fourth, and Washington and Lee University (65.5) fifth. Ferrum scored 55 team points and is in seventh place in a field of 20 teams.

THE BASICS
Levi Englman advanced to the semifinals Saturday with a 3-0 mark Friday. He pinned Rene Trevino of Wilkes in 3:57 to open the tournament, then decked Greensboro's Joshua Cox in 2:26. In the quarterfinals, Englman beat #4 seed Quinn Tobin of Alvernia 8-1. In Saturday morning's semifinal, Englman will take on top seed Kyle Slendorn of Stevens Tech.
Five other Ferrum wrestlers are still competing; JD McMillin (125 lbs), Christian Hite (157), Elijah Martin (165), Colt Oliver (174) and Rayshawn Dixon (285). McMillin opened Friday with a loss, then posted a pair of wins, including a pin, to stay alive.
Hite also lost his opening match Friday, then bounced back with two wins, including a 16-1 technical fall. Martin opened with a loss, then posted a 15-2 major decision and a decision to keep wrestling Saturday. Oliver opened with a loss, then posted a 16-7 major decision and a fall for the Panthers.
Dixon opened with a win, then dropped a 5-2 heartbreaker to top-seeded John Fulmer of host Lycoming. In his first match in the consolations, he posted a pin and will also continue wrestling Saturday.
Ferrum wrestlers eliminated from competition after the opening day of competition include Trent Proctor (133), Hayden Funck (149) Sam Slate (184) and Braden Homsey (197). Homsey was the top seed at 197 pounds and suffered a pair of upsets Friday.

SATURDAY
Wrestling begins Saturday morning with two semifinal and two consolation matches in each weight class wrestling concurrently. The top three wrestlers in each weight class earn spots in the 2022 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships, to be held Friday and Saturday, March 11-12, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A total of 30 wrestlers will represent the Southeast Region at the NCAA Championships.
