DANVILLE, Virginia -- Ferrum College's men's wrestling team finished fifth at the 2022 Southeast Wrestling Conference (SEWC) Tournament, held today at Averett University's E. Stuart James Grant Center.

THE BASICS
Averett won the title with 154.5 points, followed by University of the Ozarks with 128 points and Roanoke College with 121.5 points.
Ferrum had eight wrestlers reach the podium, including 197-pound champion Braden Homsey, who posted a 21-4 technical fall over Averett's William Baldwin in the title match.
Rayshawn Dixon also reached the finals at 285 pounds, where he dropped a 3-0 decision to Southern Virginia University's Nico Ramirez.
Also placing for Ferrum today were Anthony Gaskin (4th, 157 lbs), Ethan Fragoso (5th, 197 lbs), Levi Englman (6th, 141 lbs), Christian Hite (6th, 157 lbs), Elijah Martin (6th, 165 lbs), and Sam Slate (6th, 184).
Averett's win snapped a five-year streak held by Ferrum. The Panthers won consecutive SEWC Tournament titles in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. The event was not held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
