ROANOKE, Virginia -- Ferrum College picked up an Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's basketball win tonight on the road over Hollins University, winning 52-45 at W. Channing Howe Playing Courts.

THE BASICS
Erin Harden had a layup, then
Aisha Martin had a three-pointer and a layup to spot Ferrum a 7-0 lead two and a half minutes into the game. Hollins used a 10-2 run over the next two minutes, grabbing a 10-9 lead on Ariana Gutierrez's three pointer at 5:17.
The two teams battled evenly through the rest of the first, with
DeMeisha Canada's layup at 0:42 giving Ferrum a 15-12 lead after one.
The game was tied 19-19 midway through the second quarter when Ferrum used an 8-2 spurt to go up 27-21 at the 2:11 mark. Mackinzie Henninger hit a jumper as time expired, was fouled and converted a free throw to complete a three-point play and trim the lead to 29-26 at the break.
The Panthers opened the second half with baskets by Harden and
Trina Lewis to extend the lead to 33-26 a minute and a half into the third quarter.
Kayla Cabiness' hit a jumper at 3:56 to give Ferrum a 41-31 lead, then had another basket at 1:47 to end the third with the Panthers out in front 43-34.
Ferrum matched its largest lead of the night at 5:15 of the fourth quarter when Cabiness drilled a three-pointer from the right side to make it a 50-40 game with 5:15 left to play. The Panther defense then hung on down the stretch for the league win.
