DANVILLE, Virginia -- Ferrum College's football team dropped an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) road game to Averett University, falling 38-10 at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.

THE BASICS
Bryce Jackson hit Jamahrie Owens with a 21-yard touchdown pass to open scoring at 2:36 of the first quarter. A 25-yard fumble return by Qumar Price at 9:16 of the second quarter made it 14-0, then Jackson's 58-yard scoring strike to Owens at 3:39 extended the Cougars' lead to 21-0 at halftime. Will Caviness connected on a 29-yard field goal attempt at 9:20 to make it a 24-0 game with 9:20 left in the third quarter.
Ferrum's
Seth Deaton drilled a 44-yard field goal to break up the shutout with 1:08 left in the third. Averett's Shawn Watlington then hauled in a 59-yard touchdown pass from Jackson less than a minute later to end the third with a 31-3 Cougar lead.
Nathan Carr rumbled into the end zone from five yards out to open the fourth quarter, helping Ferrum trim the lead to 31-10. Averett's Dreylan Martin capped scoring with a 20-yard touchdown run with 8:44 left to play.

CAREER FINALE
The game was the career coaching finale for Head Football Coach Cleive Adams, who recently was named Ferrum's next Athletic Director. Adams led the Panthers for the past four seasons, and also served six seasons as head coach at Averett.
